Why I built Timecade

I built Timecade to gather all my (and others') timekeeping need in one spot. I don't want one app for a Pomodoro-timer, and another for Tabata, and so on. I wanted a clean and attractive interface that could be left on as fullscreen background on my computer, or as a classroom timer in a school setting. I wanted the visual style to be appealing, distraction free, and cather different tastes.

When I am satisfied with Timecade as it is, I will develop it as a full mobile app for iOS and Android. I do hope you find Timecade pleasant to use, and benifical for your everyday digital experience.

Limitations

Timecade is a website, not a native app, so the browser sets the rules. These are the honest limits today:

• Alarms need the page open. Alarms and timers run in the browser tab. If you close the tab, quit the browser or restart the device, nothing will ring. Timecade cannot wake your phone like a native alarm clock can — use your phone's built-in alarm for anything you must not miss.
• Background tabs are throttled. Phones and laptops may pause or slow a backgrounded tab, especially when the screen is locked, so a ring can arrive late or only when you return to the tab. Keeping Timecade in the foreground (with "Keep screen awake" on) is the reliable setup.
• Sound needs a first interaction. Browsers block audio until you have clicked something on the page, so start a timer or press the sound test once per session to make sure alarms are audible. Silent mode, system volume and Bluetooth outputs also override anything Timecade does.
• Notifications and vibration are permission-based. Desktop and Android notifications only appear after you grant permission, and can be muted by system Do Not Disturb. iOS Safari does not vibrate, and only supports notifications for sites added to the Home Screen.
• Fullscreen works differently on iOS. iOS Safari has no real fullscreen API, so Timecade uses a fallback layout — the browser toolbar can reappear when you scroll or rotate.
• Saved data is per browser until you sign in. Themes, sounds, and settings live in local storage on that specific browser: private windows, a cleared cache, another browser or another device all start fresh. Signing in syncs presets, projects, world clock layout and stats across devices.
• Stats and logs need an account. Focus and Tabata history, Pomodoro projects and alarm logs are only recorded while signed in. Anonymous use is not tracked, and nothing recorded offline is backfilled later.
• Integrations are still young. Google Calendar, webhooks and the ChatGPT/MCP connection are in beta: they depend on third-party services and may change or break without notice.
• Beta software. Timecade is under active development. Features can move, change or briefly stop working — if something looks wrong, tell me and I will fix it.
